Alex has just been awarded funding by Scotland Unltd to carry out a feasibility study into holding a water based event in Glasgow next year linked to the Glasgow River Festival. The idea, which came to Alex as a result of a conversation with a colleague, Franny Kearnan, is to hold a race between vessels, all of which must be crewed, made of recycled materials. The boats may be made from any recycled materials – wood, paper, beer cans, milk cartons, etc. Alex hopes to organise a series of related events for children on the ponds in the many Glasgow parks and the canal which flows through the west and north of the city.
Billy Singh of Unltd will be working with Alex over the next few months to try to turn the dream into a reality.
